Polisario marks 53rd anniversary with unusual discretion
DR

The Polisario marked its 53rd anniversary on Sunday, May 10, in an unusually subdued manner. Unlike previous years, no major celebrations or military parades were organized for the occasion, and no prominent foreign delegations were officially invited.

Aside from a handful of articles published by media outlets affiliated with the Front and some Algerian media coverage, the anniversary passed largely unnoticed. Even more strikingly, Polisario Secretary-General Brahim Ghali neither issued an official statement nor delivered a speech marking the symbolic date.

The low-profile commemoration contrasts sharply with the movement’s usual communication strategy, as the Polisario has traditionally used such occasions to reaffirm its political positions and media messaging.

By comparison, on April 28, Brahim Ghali inaugurated a new edition of the Fisahara film festival in the Tindouf camps, an event attended by around twenty foreign delegations and journalists invited to cover the gathering.
