In Lille, he has long been spoken of as a rough diamond. In Morocco, some already saw him as a future midfield leader. Caught between the two, Ayyoub Bouaddi has now chosen his side. And it will not be the blue shirt of Clairefontaine, but the red of the Atlas Lions.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation made it official on Thursday evening: the LOSC midfielder, barely 18 and already carrying himself like a seasoned professional with 96 senior appearances under his belt, has committed to Morocco. He has played nearly 100 matches before even booking a ticket to America for the 2026 World Cup.

Born in Creil, developed at Lille and capped 10 times by France’s under-21 side, the young midfielder had been given every reason to wait and choose Les Bleus.

After Brahim Diaz, Neil El Aynaoui and the highly promising Ibrahim Rabbaj at youth level, Morocco continues to bring its dual-national talents into the fold with method and conviction.

It is a genuine project, and one that is attracting more and more players with dual eligibility, with the 2030 World Cup, partly hosted by Morocco, firmly in its sights. By then, at 22, Bouaddi could arrive on home soil wearing the mantle of the Atlas Lions’ midfield general.
