In an address before the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, Mohamed El Aissaoui, a representative of the organization Reducing Human Rights Violations in the Tindouf Camps, denounced what he described as the «continued systematic human rights violations» taking place in the Tindouf camps on Algerian territory. He accused the Polisario Front of involvement in these abuses, citing what he called «Algerian complicity and international silence».

El Aissaoui said the humanitarian situation in the camps continues to deteriorate, particularly for women and children. According to him, residents are being denied fundamental rights, including the right to have their legal status as refugees determined and the right to freedom of movement. He also criticized the continued failure to carry out a census of the camp population in accordance with international humanitarian law and UN Security Council resolutions. Despite repeated calls from the United Nations, he argued, the registration process remains blocked and is being used as a political tool to maintain control over camp residents.

The speaker further stated that international reports, including assessments by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), have pointed to the systematic diversion of humanitarian aid intended for the camps.

Concluding his remarks, El Aissaoui called on the international community to hold Algeria accountable as the host country, to demand the immediate and unconditional registration of camp residents, and to strengthen mechanisms for monitoring humanitarian aid. He also argued that «the solution to the crisis lies in the Moroccan autonomy initiative», which he described as a realistic framework for both a political settlement and sustainable development.
