Iran reiterated its backing for the Polisario's stance at the UN Committee of 24 sessions held from June 15 to 26 in New York, as reported by the international organization’s press service.

Tehran's representative expressed concern over the Western Sahara issue, emphasizing Iran's support «for the right of all peoples to freely determine their future status».

The diplomat noted that «the historical circumstances that placed this territory on the UN list still demand the international community's attention. It is crucial for the people of Western Sahara to be actively involved in any UN-led process, ensuring their views are clearly understood, free from external influence».

This Iranian endorsement was warmly received by Polisario media outlets. To recall, Iran has recognized the «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR)» since the early 1980s. Diplomatic ties between Rabat and Tehran have been severed since May 1, 2018.

The Kingdom denounced Iran's recent attacks on Arab countries amid the Middle East conflict.
