German defense company Rheinmetall has secured a major contract to supply Morocco with seven highly mobile field hospitals, expanding its presence in North Africa.

According to a press release issued by the German group on Friday, the contract was signed in June with the Kingdom of Morocco and is worth a mid-double-digit million-euro amount. One field hospital will be delivered to the Ministry of Defense, while the remaining six are intended for the Ministry of the Interior.

Deliveries are scheduled between 2027 and 2028 and will be carried out through a local Moroccan distributor of medical equipment.

Rheinmetall said the systems are based on field hospitals developed for and tested by the Ukrainian armed forces. They are designed to be rapidly deployed, transported on trucks and expanded with military tents when needed.

Each hospital will include a self-sufficient operating theater, an intensive care unit and a sterilization unit, as well as patient wards, an X-ray station, a laboratory, a pharmacy and specialized departments, including ophthalmology, dentistry and ENT. The facilities will also be equipped with CT scanners and independent power, water and oxygen supplies, allowing them to operate autonomously in both urban and remote areas.

«We are delighted to have secured this follow-up order for our field hospitals and to be engaging in cooperation in the North African region», said Armin Krenn, managing director of Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH. He added that the systems «not only save lives in military conflicts but also make a crucial contribution to maintaining acute care when local and stationary hospitals are unable to operate».
