The secretary-general of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) has sought the help of the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani to help revive the regional grouping.

During their meeting in Nouakchott, Ould Ghazouani called for the organization of a Maghreb summit as soon as possible, the Mauritanian press agency reports.

For the record, the last Arab Maghreb Union summit was held in April 1994 in Tunis. The former Tunisian President Moncef El Marzouki tried to revive the dying union by calling in July 2012 for a meeting of heads of state but his efforts were in vain.
