Etymologists and historians have tried to give an exact meaning to the city of Marrakech’s name. Some of them call it the land of God or Mur Akush, while others believe that its name refers to its ancient fort.
Contrary to what people think, the Shia doctrine had made its way to the Kingdom of Morocco. After the Fatimid conquest, the region of Souss was inhabited by tribes who followed Shia Islam. Two centuries later, the Almoravids invaded the region to stop the spread of the doctrine.
