With just a few months left before the European Union’s deadline to comply with a Court of Justice ruling requiring the labeling of tomatoes and melons produced in the Sahara, the European Commission remains silent on the progress of its negotiations with Morocco. This cautious stance has frustrated a Spanish agricultural organization.
The European Commissioner for Agriculture is currently providing for the criteria to be complied with for the marketing of imported products, including the ones originating from Western Sahara. However, the measure is pending a decision from the European Court of Justice regarding the amendment of two articles 1 and 4 from the EU-Morocco association agreement.
