I bought wet food for my cats and found out reading the label it contains pork. What do you think? Should we feed our pets according to our religion? My husband thinks since they are not muslims, islamic laws don't apply grinning smiley

PS: for those who have cats, it's Science Diet (Savory Salmon Entrée)

salam,

if you think you should feed your cat halal food then you need to teach your pet the daily five prayers, how to fast......I mean the five pillars of Islamptdr
If you succeed then I will send you my neighbour's cat as it's giving me headache these days....

Salama alaikoum,

First of all let me say this : I found rotorua boy's answer just pathetic and if is a Muslim he should know how important cats are in our religion and the place they have. Actually any animal in any religion has importance so answering with words like that is just really pathetic and it is not worth it answering back to him or make a comment.

Dear Sayeda Mel3aqa, being yourself a Muslim, i am sure you know that we can't eat pork so we can't buy it. Then by all means i truly believe that why should you give none halal food to your pet just because is an animal. Animal has been created by Allah subhanou wa tahalla the same way that we have been created by Allah.

I think that you raised a very interesting question and in my belief i am sure that, if you think that you have to give halal food to your cat, you should and that is a good think to do to keep you a maximum into the path of our religion.

Give your cat halal food and be proud to do so. In every laws is the writing and the interpretation and in our religion is also all about feelings and especially good feelings and good intention as Allah see's them. So i believe that will make you happy and proud to give halal food to your cat..Just do it dear Sayeda Mel3aqa.

Razi,
Thank you for your lengthy reply. Effectively, I changed my cats diet as I was not feeling confortable handling their food. Also, I abhor to harm them in a way or another.

the pig is likely to contaminate food with germs dog parasites, & don't know about cats or food that i see on the shelvesin market is beef, poultry or fish, i never looked to ingredients, i think all animals believe in god and worship, but they do not have the law or the provisions can not be classified to jews, christians and muslims, Allah only know

Halal or not halal, cat food should never contain pork! Pork is unhealthy for cats -- the fats are hard for them to digest, and often cause intestinal distress. Kitties thrive on chicken, beef, mutton, venison and fish protein.

Personally, I don't think our pets should be expected to observe the same ethical/religious/moral rules that we humans observe. They are innocent creatures who simply need the food they need -- so, for instance, if you are a vegetarian Muslim, Christian or Jew, careful never to eat food that involves the death of an animal, you are still obligated to feed your innocent cat the meat-based food he or she needs to survive.

If you are a Muslim who eats meat, I can see how you would prefer to find halal cat food for your little purr-baby -- but if you can't find a Halal cat food provider, I would recommend that you just seek out a high-end canned catfood source. A truly reputable vendor of canned cat food would NEVER sell a product that includes pork, it is just too unhealthy for cats.

Just my thoughts, as a cat lover.
