Constructing dizzying monuments of glass and steel as symbols of progress too often prioritizes spectacle at the expense of local needs: housing, preservation of cultural heritage, and sustainable urban planning. If new developments are to be undertaken, they must respect vernacular architecture, utilize local materials and expertise, and be designed in consultation with communities in order to complement, not replace, Moroccan heritage.
