Well fossil, Carthage it is in Tunisia and not in Morocc and according to the legend, Carthage was founded by Tyrian sailors led by Queen Dido, Pygmalion's sister( in 814 B.C ). This forward-looking "new city" worshipped by its inhabitants and eager for knowledge, was defined by the greatest writers of that era as "the queen of the seas" an imperial power who fought against Rome.
Carthage, the most renowned city, in Tunisia and the crossroads of civilisations is considered as an important cultural center. In this active and prosperous city with a Mediterranean and African vitality, Carthaginian people would work, trade, labor but would entertain themselves as well.
In fact, the cultural fame of Carthage was mainly built up through the history of its amphitheatre founded in the first century. Located at the outskirts of the city (156 m long and 128 m wide ), the amphitheatre has become a major place for artistic and cultural blooming, attracting people from all over the world. Thus, following the last restorations the amphitheatre underwent at the beginning of the 20th century, we can hardly imagine that, formerly, carthaginians used to attend speeches, shows and various games such as plays, bloody fights of gladiators within the arena.
But, the wealth and strength of the city allowed neither time nor space to bruise it, and Carthage has remained the most visited site in Tunisia by culture and history amateurs. about the festival of Carthage, Being one of the most important Arab, African and World festivals, the International Carthage Festival holds this year its 41th edition. The amphitheatre which was restored at the beginning of the 20 th Century and adapted to modern technology (it takes in up to 7500 spectators), hosted various civilisations, and is considered today in Tunisia as a symbol site. It was used during the 1960's to host jazz concerts and plays...
Carthage Festival was founded in 1964, It attracted famous artists throughout the world such as: Feyrouz, Sabeh Fakhri, Warda, Najat, Wadia el Safi, Samira Bensaid, Majda el Roumy, Abdel hedi belkhayat, abdel wahab doukali...... Moreover, the Festival invited artists from outside the Arab and Mediterranean area to offer its spectators a wide range of artistic creation. Thus, Carthage goers were able to admire Myriam Makeba, Youssou Ndour, Dalida, James Brown, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Johnny Clegg, Alpha Blondy and Joe Cocker whose performances were engraved in people's memories forever. It is a very big honor to the one who rises on this historic theater. visit this sites: a pic for Carthage theater [www.projetpatrimoine.nat.tn]

Welcome to Samira in Tunisia, even if I am a ghiwani-man.
I would like to hear and see more algerian and morrocan artists in Tunisia because those ones from middle east are invading our ears. Long live maghrebian music.
..We had also Nass El Ghiwan in Carthago..and those masters deserve that. ---------------------------------------
It is a pity if we know more about la revolution francaise and someone else history and ignore ours Our roots are rich and we have to be convinced about it.
As a man/ woman from North Africa, one should know his history, this will give you more self-esteem and also ..confidence:
---------------------------------------
Since I am tunisian ,I would like to tell you more about Carthage ( though I am not an expert!!), this is not chauvinis. i simply want mention some points:
One of the master and big thinker of Christianism ( befor the arrival of our beloved Islam) Saint Augustin born in Souk Ahras and studied in Carthogo.
... That part of North Africa, including Annaba ( Hypone, Constantine (Cyrta)in Est Algeria and the rest of Tunisia used to be called Africa. Ibn Khaldoun..did that too Much later on: the name of the whole continent became Africa.. At that time Africa was "le grenier de Rome" and used to feed Rome. Nowadays we import our food!! ------------------------ ...by the way Hanibal was also from Carthage, and he colonised Italy,.. (try to gather some info ´s from the net about his trip thru Pyrenés and Alpes..) (Hannibal tactics are still taugh at military academies..same for Napoleon, Rommel...)
------------------------- ...There a is big village not far from carthage called Hannibal and also another one called Amilcar... ------------------------ ..also Carthago was destroyed (partly) by the romans (Carthogo delenda est), but nowadays Carthago is restaured and is back..
The roman killed all Hanibal generals except one called Magon, because he was an expert in agriculture..so they took him to Rome to teach them how to grow olives and grappes..and to this date we have a wine named Magon.
Excuse the confusion and have a nice time..

Posted: 23-07-2005 , 09:51 GMT Moroccan singer Samira Saeed rekindled an old flame between her and her Tunisian fans during her performance at the Carthage festival. Samira's performance drew the largest crowd of any at the festival. Samira sang a collection of songs in different dialects varying from Moroccan to Egyptian, Lebanese, and even western. The audience was memorized by her performance and the crowd of fans had her songs memorized by heart. CONGRATULATIONS! Nizar
