Turkish exporters have complained about unusual delays in recent weeks when exporting ready-to-wear clothes to Morocco, Reuters reported.

Turkish companies said that they have been facing «delays of up to five times the norm clearing customs in Morocco».

Giyasettin Eyyupkoca, head of Turkey’s Laleli Industry and Business Association, said that Turkish exporters had to wait for «10-12 days to clear our goods through customs, instead of two days as usual».

Morocco has recently amended a trade deal with Turkey. Said amendment allows the Kingdom to raise duties by up to 90% on «1,200 products including textiles and clothing for five years».

The decision was made as part of the Kingdom’s plan to protect local manufacturers and retailers.

For the record,Turkey exported $2.2 billion in goods to Morocco in 2019.
