American actor Johnny Depp has recently spoken about the set of Ciro Guerra's «Waiting for the Barbarians», which was partly filmed near Marrakech.

Interviewed by Italian daily La Repubblica, the Hollywood movie star said that he has «a deep affection for Morocco and its inhabitants». «There is great kindness in their eyes», he said.

The film was released in August on streaming platforms in the United States. In 2018, Johnny Depp also told the American magazine The Playlist about his impatience to go to Morocco, to shoot this adaptation of the novel «Waiting for the barbarians» published in 1980 by the South African writer John Maxwell.

Johnny Depp also paid tribute to Marlon Brandon in this interview, while discussing the importance of empathy and human values on a film set.

In «Waiting for the Barbarians», Johnny Depp plays the role of Joll, a colonel in charge of undermining the attempted revolts, using torture and endless interrogations. The story takes place in an unnamed desert.
