The Spanish Civil Guard was alerted, Wednesday, by several people in Ceuta after they had noticed a floating body in the sea off the shores of La Ribera beach.
According to local online newspaper El Pueblo de Ceuta, the Civil Guard recovered the body of a man, who is said to be Moroccan. The authorities transferred the body to the city’s morgue to undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The initial account suggests that the man drowned while trying to swim to Ceuta from Morocco.
The Civil Guard recalled, Wednesday, that there have been numerous attempts by migrants to swim from and back to Morocco.
