The UK’s International Environment Minister Lord Goldsmith held, Wednesday, a virtual visit to Morocco. During this virtual visit, Goldsmith held talks with Minister for Energy, Mines, and Environment Aziz Rabbah on how to expand UK-Morocco links to support clean energy.
The two Minister discussed Morocco’s «COP22 experience, its ambitious targets on renewables and its role as climate advocate on adaptation and resilience in Africa». They also addressed «how the UK and Morocco could deepen its partnership in Morocco, and within COP26, to support clean energy and green growth», a press release by the British Embassy in Rabat read.
During the same visit, Lord Goldsmith attended a roundtable with Moroccan national experts and institutional leads and heard about «Moroccan action to protect biodiversity and nature to reduce climate impact».
«As COP26 President, the UK is clear on the need for urgent global climate action. Today’s discussions highlighted that Morocco with its strong political will and its leadership through practical action on renewables and adaptation in agriculture is an important partner in Africa in tackling this global challenge», Lord Goldsmith said.
For the record, the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties, also known as COP26, is scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland from 1 to 12 November 2021 under the Presidency of the UK Government.
