The United Arab Emirates inaugurated, Wednesday, its new consulate general in the city of Laayoune as promised. The new consulate is the 9th diplomatic representation of a foreign country to open in the Sahara.
The inauguration, chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita and his Emirati counterpart, comes after Crown Prince Mohamed Ben Zayed announced the decision in a phone call with King Mohammed VI on October 27.
In a statement released by the Royal cabinet, it was announced that the United Arab Emirates’ Crown Prince had promised the Moroccan King to open a consulate in the Sahara.
