American and German laboratories Pfizer and BioNTech have announced that their Covid-19 vaccine has been found to be more than 90 percent effective.
According to AFP, the vaccine’s efficacy was measured by comparing the number of participants infected with the new coronavirus in the group that received the vaccine and in that under placebo, seven days after the second dose and 28 days after the first one, they explained in a joint press release.
«More than eight months after the start of the worst pandemic in more than a century, we believe that this step represents a significant step forward for the world in our battle against Covid-19», said the Chairman and CEO of Pfizer, Albert Bourla. «The first set of results from our Phase 3 Covid-19 vaccine trial provides initial evidence of our vaccine's ability to prevent Covid-19», he added.
US President Donald Trump on Monday greeted the «excellent news», while his successor, Joe Biden sees a sign of «hope» in the announcement.
