Morocco’s head of government Saadeddine El Othmani announced, Friday, that he will be meeting with the leaders of political parties in the wake of the army’s deployment to Guerguerate and the military intervention of the Royal Armed Forces.

«I will be holding a meeting with the leaders of political parties to update them about the operation carried out by the Royal Armed Forces in Guerguerate», he wrote on his Twitter account.

Earlier today, Saadeddine El Othmani affirmed, in a series of tweets, that «Morocco’s response to the provocations of the separatist militias in the Guerguerate buffer zone in the Moroccan Sahara, is meant to help resume the flow of goods and people, after the appeals of MINURSO and the United Nations Secretary-General, and the interventions of a number of members of the Security Council, have failed».

He also recalled that «the intervention of the Royal Armed Forces in the area aims to create a separation wall which forms a security cordon in order to secure the movement of goods and people through the buffer zone to connect Morocco to Mauritania».

On Friday, the army spoke of a «non-offensive operation without any bellicose intent» which is taking place in the buffer zone to set up a security cordon in order to secure the flow of goods and people.

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, indicated, for its part, said that «Morocco has decided to act» on the blockage that has been going on for three weeks.
