A court in Malaga, Spain, has started the trial of a Moroccan woman accused of leaving her 17-month-old baby for a month.

According to Europa Press, the Moroccan woman arrived in Spain in March 2017. She was pregnant when she traveled to Spain and did so to hide her pregnancy from her father.

The accused then gave birth on May 4, 2017 and lived in the house of her sister and her brother-in-law. In mid-2018, she moved to the city, rented a place and started working as a waitress at a nightclub.

«She used to leave the baby alone, when she was only 15 months old and could not walk without help», the same source added. This is when the Moroccan woman's absences become frequent and she started sleeping at her friends’ and boyfriend’s place.

Around October 2018, the accused «left the apartment for good and left her daughter in the room, with a bottle of water and some cookies, with the door and the windows closed», without returning home.

In November, the woman's brothers traveled to Malaga because they could not contact her. She then told them about what she did run away.

Her family alerted the police who, once there, discovered the body of the little girl. According to the results of the autopsy, «death occurred within a minimum of 26 to 30 days before discovery and the main cause was abandonment, which includes malnutrition, dehydration, starvation and lack of medical and hygienic care».
