A Muslim woman was removed from an American Airlines flight after a passenger said he did not feel «comfortable» with her being on the same plane.

This woman is Amani al-Khatahtbeh, founder of the Muslim Girl website and the first Muslim woman to run for Congress in New Jersey. She was expected to travel from Newark to Charlotte, North Carolina on November 14.

Amani al-Khatahtbeh shared this incident on her Twitter account, which was confirmed by another Twitter user who was on the same plane. «Had to get off my flight because a man asked a Muslim woman to get off the plane. American Air employees followed his request and gave the woman no explanation», the internet user wrote.

A video on social media showed someone from airport security telling Amani that she is being removed from the flight because a passenger «doesn’t feel comfortable» with her being on the aircraft.

The Independent reported that Amani al-Khatahtbeh was taken into custody by airport authorities, before being released. A spokesperson said that the independent inspector general had opened an investigation into incident, which began during TSA screening.
