Moreover, Berlin urged the parties involved in the conflict to return to the negotiating table.
The German Foreign Ministry also called for the resumption of the political process under the auspices of the United Nations, indicating that the federal government would call for the appointment of a new UN envoy to the region following the resignation of Horst Kohler.
Berlin said the efforts made by the former German president during his mandate proved that «positive progress can be made» on this issue.
On Friday, the kingdom announced an operation by its Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in the buffer zone of Guerguerate, near border with Mauritania, where it established a «security cordon» to restore the flow of goods and people after the Polisario blocked the border crossing for three weeks.
