Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s position regarding the Western Sahara question, calling for a political and diplomatic settlement for the conflict, in a phone call with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita.

The Minister urged «all parties to strengthen the suspension of hostilities and the end of tensions that have arisen in the recent days in the Guerguerate area», the Lavrov department said in a press release on Wednesday, November 18.

Russia was among the first countries to react to the military operation launched by the Royal Armed Forces on Friday, November 13. It also called «Morocco and the Polisario to show restraint, refrain from taking measures likely to worsen the situation and to strictly comply with the ceasefire agreement».

During the same phone call, Lavrov and Bourita discussed bilateral relations, in particular the preparation of the Eighth Intergovernmental Joint Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, scheduled for December in Moscow.
