Aminatou Haidar was prevented from boarding a Wednesday's flight to Las Palmas (Canary Islands). When notified of the ban, the pro-Polisario activist denounced the situation and described it as a «violation of her fundamental rights».
On her Twitter account, Haidar posted a video in which she said that unlike her son who has a Spanish citizenship, she was prevented from leaving the country.
However, preventing Haidar from boarding the flight to Las Palmas was justified by the Royal Air Maroc (RAM), which reported that Haidar had tested positive for Covid-19. Yabiladi was able to take a look at the document showing that Haidar underwent coronavirus screening at a private laboratory in Laayoune.

«Following the spread on social media of erroneous information concerning the flight conditions of a passenger named Aminatou Haidar, Royal Air Maroc insisted on clarifying that in accordance with the protocol of the state of health emergency, the national carrier was informed by the health authorities of Laayoune that the said passenger tested positive for Covid-19», RAM said in a press release.
This coordination between the health authorities, the local authorities and RAM aims to preserve the health of passengers and the safety of flights, the same source added.
For the record, anyone infected with Covid-19 must respect strict quarantine for 14 days and avoid contact with other people, the statement concluded.
