After years of disagreement, Prince Moulay Hicham reached out to King Mohammed VI. In a series of tweets, he voiced his gratitude to his cousin who has always been there for his daughters, despite the «difficult relationship» they had. He was grateful to him for having had a great role in preventing his daughters from being uprooted, when the prince decided to leave the country to settle down in the United States.
«When I left for the United States nearly 20 years ago, I was petrified about uprooting them from their environment and disrupting their natural networks of solidarity», he wrote on his Twitter account. «Of course, they would receive the best education and upbringing in America; but I dreaded that something precious would be lost forever. (…) Yet in the final analysis, my worse apprehensions thankfully did not materialize. Nobody deserves more credit for this positive outcome than my cousin, King Mohammed VI», he added.
For all of us, a positive aspect of the pandemic has been the additional time afforded to think reflectively about our lives. With an altered sense of time and direction, teleology disappears. One is only left with himself (1/9) pic.twitter.com/V1276UsCvm

Moulay Hicham said he reflected upon his family during the last 9 months, marked by the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns. To him, this period was «additional time afforded to think reflectively about our lives. With an altered sense of time and direction, teleology disappears. One is only left with himself», the prince wrote.
«I have not been able to reciprocate»
In his tweets, the prince referred to the King's relationship with his daughters. He stressed that «as head of the family, he has spared no efforts in keeping the girls tightly integrated back home, despite the difficult relationship that he and I had. He has been an attentive uncle to Faizah and Haajar, in the same way that he has been to every member of the entire family».
«At no time did he let my personal choices interfere with their personal trajectory. He created the safe and warm space that allowed my daughters to interact with their cousins and other relatives, and grow in healthy, serene ways».
Thanks to this attitude, his daughters «not only were able to flourish but they also never lost their deepest sense of Moroccan identity and heritage». However, the prince regretted he has not been «able to reciprocate with his own children».
