Fouad Akrich, a former Jihadist fighter in Syria, was transferred from Turkey to a prison in Belgium last week. According to Brussels Times, which confirms information relayed by the newspaper De Morgen, Fouad Akrich's transfer took place on Tuesday 24 November. He was a member of Sharia4Belgium.

The Belgian-Moroccan left Belgium for Syria in 2012. He was arrested in Turkey almost a year ago, along with his Dutch wife and their three children, who are still in a center awaiting transfer to the Netherlands.

At the beginning of the year, the Belgian Official Gazette, the official journal publishing the laws and other texts, published a notice indicating that Akrich's Belgian nationality had been withdrawn from him, following his conviction in absentia in 2015 to five years in prison for belonging to the terrorist group Sharia4Belgium.

«I had opposed this conviction and since there is no definitive criminal ruling, the revocation of his nationality was suspended», said Walter Damen, attorney for Fouad Akrich, who also has Moroccan nationality.

The lawyer added that he was able to see his client on Thursday. «He was questioned and his appeal case can begin in early 2021», he added.
