The Royal Armed Forces intervention in Guerguerate has helped multiply political communications between Morocco and Russia. On Thursday, December 3, Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov held a phone call. The latter focused on the «the situation in Western Sahara», the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

«Sergey Lavrov called on the parties involved to show restraint, to respect the ceasefire and to restore the negotiation process under the auspices of the UN», the same statement read.

On November 18, in another phone call with Bourita, Lavrov reiterated Moscow's «principled position», which favors a «political settlement to the Western Sahara issue based on diplomatic means and international law».

On November 20, Lavrov had a phone call with his Algerian counterpart, Sabri Boukadoum, on the Sahara issue.
