Contrary to his reaction when some Gulf countries normalized ties with Israel, Moroccan Salafist Sheikh Mohamed Fizazi justified the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and the Hebrew state.
On Facebook, he said that what happened needs «reflection, analysis and interpretation», answering to those who referred to the Rabat and Tel Aviv’s new agreement as a «betrayal» and calling them «enemies of the homeland».
The Salafist recalled that «there are Algerian leaders who are arming themselves from Russia and seeking the support of the descendants of Fidel Castro and of the Communists in general to kill their Moroccan Muslim brothers». «Is this forbidden or allowed ?», he asked.
Mohamed Fizazi pointed to «normalization with France, which during its occupation of Algeria and the liberation war killed around seven million people» as well as with «Christian Spain and what it did against Muslims in terms of killings, displacement and exile during the Inquisition and what followed it».
Tough on the Palestinians, gentle on Israelis of Moroccan descent
He also criticized Palestine, stressing that it is the first country which normalized its relations with Israel. «Its leaders and activists are treated in Israeli hospitals», he blurted out before highlighting «the patriotic and allegiance links of about one million Jews of Moroccan origin in occupied Palestine».
«It is their right to travel to and from Morocco, even if they come from Ben-Gurion airport. And to be more frank and clear, I'm saying that the Jewish lobbyists in America and Europe serve the national cause there, more than the millions of Muslims in those lands».
The Salafist added that «Morocco has the right to defend its land against the leaders of Algeria and the Polisario who are watching us and planning to divide our homeland». «Morocco has the right to strengthen the alliance with America and with others», he concluded by assuring that he «rejects normalization and refuses to recognize Zionism and Zionists».
Fizazi’s position is more moderate that the one he had voiced when Gulf countries announced normalization with Israel, particularly the United Arab Emirates.
