China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) announced on Wednesday that final stage trials of one of its coronavirus vaccines showed a 79 percent efficacy rate. This vaccine is developed by the CNBG laboratory in collaboration with the Peking University, AFP reports.
Sinopharm is the first Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturer to give details on the effectiveness of a vaccine in preparation. The Chinese authorities have nonetheless started to vaccinate more than a million people using products that they have not yet formally validated.
This efficacy remains lower than those of the vaccines developed by Pfizer & BioNTech (95%) and Moderna (94.1%). The vaccine developed by Astrazeneca, with the help of Oxford University, is 70% effective and can reach 100% with two doses.
For the record, Morocco has opted for the vaccine developed by Sinopharm in collaboration with the University of Wuhan.
