The Association for the Defense of Animals and Nature (ADAN) has just launched, via the Animal webaction platform, a campaign to collect food to save stray animals in Morocco.

«The association now welcomes more than 200 dogs at its shelter, and also feeds around a hundred stray dogs. The health crisis has had a huge impact on the number of abandoned dogs», explains its president, Ahmed Tazi in a statement published on the platform.

The NGO, helped by another association, Rapad Maroc, has managed to feed the dogs so far. However, «kibbles are almost finished, there is only 60 kg left and we need help in order to be able to support and feed these animals», the association argued.

To fight against animal abuse, ADAN has established an agreement with local authorities which, instead of slaughtering reported and captured street dogs, bring them to the shelter. «If we don't have enough to feed them, then we won't be able to accept the new dogs that are brought back to us. And if we do not accept them, then they will be killed by the authorities», Ahmed Tazi added.

With an increasing number of street dogs, NGOs must sterilize and vaccinate the entire population. It must also finance the maintenance of the refuge and the food needs for stray animals.
