Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita held talks, Tuesday, with his Swedish counterpart. «Constructive meeting with Morocco Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. We discussed areas of strengthened cooperation between our countries and the security situation of the Sahel region. We also agreed the need for a UN-facilitated process for Western Sahara», Ann Linde wrote on her Twitter.

This discussion comes only days after Linde supported the organization of a referendum in the Sahara, during a conference held on January 8 by the Swedish socialist youth. Algerian and Polisario media relayed this position.

Reacting to the US recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, the Minister of Foreign Affairs pleaded for a «just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, which will ensure the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, in accordance with international law. Sweden supports the UN-led process».

For the record, the socialist government led by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, in power since 2014, in 2016 abandoned its plan to recognize the «SADR».
