Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez chaired, Monday, a new edition of the conference of Spanish ambassadors. During this meeting, he underlined the main lines of his cabinet’s diplomacy for 2021.

On the Western Sahara question, Sanchez called for the resumption of the negotiation process with the objective of reaching a «just and lasting political solution» to the territorial dispute, Europa Press reported.

The same position was voiced by Sanchez during his speech on September 25 at the United Nations General Assembly.

Spain is betting on Joe Biden to backtrack on Donald Trump's recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. It is up to the Democratic administration «to assess the situation and see how it will position itself and work towards a just and lasting solution that does not depend on a momentary alignment with a camp or the other», Spain’s Foreign Minister said in December.

Pedro Sanchez also quoted Morocco during his speech, stressing that the year 2021 could see the organization of a new summit between the two kingdoms giving further details.
