A fire broke out, Thursday, at a plant being built for the Serum Institute of India (SII), where millions of the coronavirus Covishield doses are being produced, AFP reports.

Indian television channels showed huge cloud of grey smoke above the firm’s Pune facility on Thursday. «It is not going to affect production of the COVID-19 vaccine», a source at the Serum Institute told AFP news agency.

«It is unlikely to hit the production of Covishield, the coronavirus vaccine developed by the SII in partnership with the Oxford University and British-Swedish pharma firm AstraZeneca», New Delhi Television explained.

For the record, Morocco has approached Serum Institute of India for the acquisition of batches of the Covishield vaccine, developed by AstraZeneca.
