Morocco to receive the first batches of the Sinopharm vaccine on Wednesday

Health Minister Khalid Ait Taleb announced, Friday, that the anti-Covid-19 vaccination campaign will start as soon as possible. In a press release, the Ministry confirmed that Morocco received 2 million doses of the AstraZeneca-developed vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.

The Ministry also announced that Morocco will receive the first batch of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine on Wednesday.  

The Ministry of Health recalled that the vaccine campaign will target, in the first place, frontline workers and people most likely to develop complications from the coronavirus. Health workers aged 40 and over, public authorities and the Royal Armed Forces as well as teachers aged 45 and over, and people aged 75 and over will be the first to take the shots.

Citizens, as well as foreigners residing in Morocco, belonging to the targeted groups, can obtain the date of their vaccine shot and the vaccination center via the website www.liqahcorona.ma or by texting service number 17, from Sunday 24 January 2021 at noon.

«To achieve herd immunity that would reduce the number of infections and deaths caused by the epidemic and in accordance with royal guidelines, the Kingdom of Morocco has acquired a quantity of vaccines for 33 million inhabitants (66 million doses)».

The Ministry of Health will provide all the information on the national vaccination campaign through television, radio and online awareness campaigns which will be broadcast by national television and radio channels, as well as on social media.
