The Biden administration backs normalization agreements signed between Israel and Arab countries and brokered by the Trump administration. This support was voiced, Sunday, by the National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan during a phone call with Israeli National Security Advisor Meir Ben Shabbat.

Sullvian confirmed «President Biden’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security», according to a White House press release. The two officials «discussed opportunities to enhance the partnership over the coming months, including by building on the success of Israel’s normalization arrangements with UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco».

The official also confirmed that the «United States will closely consult with Israel on all matters of regional security».

Biden to follow into the footsteps of Trump

Antony Blinken announced President Biden’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security on January 19 during his appearance before the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Senate for the approval of his appointment as head of American diplomacy.

«There are certain commitments that may have been made in the context of getting those countries to normalize relations with Israel that I think we should take a hard look at, and I imagine the committee feels the same way», he said in as quoted by the Washington Institute.

«But I applaud the work that was done to push forward on normalization with Israel. It makes Israel and the region safer. It’s a good thing, and yes, I would hope that we can build on that as well», he added.

The White House's official blessing of the Abraham accords is good news for Morocco, which signed an agreement with Israel in December 2020 to resume diplomatic ties. It is also positive when it comes to the US recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, which Algeria and the Polisario believe the Biden administration must reverse.
