Moroccan justice has dropped all charges against Mauritanian billionaire Mohamed Ould Bouamatou. The businessman was prosecuted for posting to social media false Moroccan passports of former president Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz and his wife, recalls Le360.

«The Kingdom of Morocco is against this gross aberration. The preliminary investigations made it possible, in fact, to note that these so-called passports are non-existent at the level of the database of the competent Moroccan services», the Foreign Ministry wrote at the time.

By declaring Bouamatou persona non grata, Morocco was giving in to pressure from former Mauritanian President Ould Abdelaziz. The latter insisted on bringing his cousin to court to normalize diplomatic ties with Morocco. He even issued an international arrest warrant against him in 2017.

After ten years of exile, Mohamed Ould Bouamatou returned, in March 2020, to Mauritania.
