The former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki has reacted to the arrest and trial of Moroccan historian and activist Maati Monjib, who was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 15,000 dirhams for fraud and endangering state security.
«All my solidarity goes to Maati Monjib as well as all prisoners of conscience in Morocco», Marzouki wrote on his Facebook page.
Moncef Marzouki also shared the press release of the committees in support of human rights defender Maati Monjib and other political prisoners in Morocco, published on Thursday, January 21, 2021.
For the record, Monjib was accused of embezzlement and money laundering. Prior to his arrest, the judicial police in Rabat and Casablanca had summoned Monjib on multiple occasions for investigations in relation to these charges. He was arrested on 29 December.
