The International Criminal Court said on Friday, February 5, that it has jurisdiction over war crimes or atrocities committed in the Palestinian Territories, paving the way for a criminal investigation, despite Israeli objections.

This decision comes one year after the court’s chief prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda asked the court to confirm its jurisdiction in the area.

Moroccan head of government Saadeddine El Othmani, who criticized the Israeli occupation, hailed ICC’s decision. El Othmani signed in December a joint agreement that brought together Morocco, Israel and the United States.
