Mauritanian businessman Mohamed Ould Bouamatou has returned to Morocco. After two years, he managed to go back to his place in Marrakech on February 6, Mauritanian media reported.
The billionaire had found refuge in Morocco just after the fall of former Burkinabé President Blaise Campaoré in 2014. He was wanted by President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and the Moroccan authorities refused to hand him over to Mauritania.
The return of Bouamatou to the kingdom comes less than a week after Moroccan justice lifted all the charges against him. He was prosecuted for posting to social media false Moroccan passports of former president Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz and his wife
He was even declared persona non grata in Morocco in a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published in December 2018.
