Moroccan YouTuber 3robi F Merican starts hunger strike following his arrest

Following his arrest, Moroccan YouTuber Chafik Omerani, also known as «3robi F Merican», started a hunger strike, his brother Mohamed Omerani said.

Omerani’s lawyer told the brother that the YouTuber «had been on a hunger strike since Saturday». In a Facebook post, the brother also announced that the YouTuber’s wife contacted the US consulate after she was prevented from visiting her husband.

The American consul promised that he would contact her on Wednesday, February 10, to go together and visit Omerani.

The Court of First Instance in Casablanca decided yesterday to postpone looking into the Omerani’s case, until February 25, knowing that he was arrested on Saturday, February 6, upon his arrival at the Rabat-Salé airport.

The King's prosecutor at the Casablanca criminal court said Sunday in a statement the YouTuber is «is wanted for suspicion of acts of a criminal nature», adding that Chafik Omerani «has published a series of videos containing insulting and defamatory expressions against constitutional institutions, organized establishments and public officials».
