The Serum Institute of India (SII) has been cleared to supply 24 million doses of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine to 25 countries, including Morocco, in February.

People familiar with the development told Hindustan Times, Wednesday, that the list of countries include Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, Mauritius, Philippines, Serbia, UAE and Qatar.

The decision is part of India’s plan to export the AstraZeneca vaccine on a commercial basis to foreign countries and international organizations.

Meanwhile, well-informed sources told Moroccan online newspaper Kifach that India will send Morocco 4 million doses of said vaccine in the next 24 hours. The same source revealed that a plane is expected to load the doses on Thursday and arrive on the same day in Morocco.

In January, India supplied 20 countries with 16.7 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by the SII. The list included Morocco, which received 2 million doses of the Covishield vaccine.

Morocco also received 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine and started its vaccination campaign two weeks ago. 615,181 people have received the vaccine against Covid-19 as of Tuesday, February 9.
