Two weeks ago, Salvamento Maritimo rescued six boats off the Alboran Sea. The boats were carrying 59 Moroccan migrants who were transferred to the port of Motril by the sea search and rescue agency that operates in Spain.

Among those rescued, there was a family consisting of a married couple and their four children. One of them, aged 10, had her pet in her arms. Accoridng to the Spanish media ABC, the pet was her cat that she held in her arms during the dangerous crossing.

According to the Castellar de la Frontera zoo in Cadiz, the pet is a five to six-month old female cat that is currently recovering. «She arrived dehydrated, malnourished and suffering from diarrhea», the center said.

«Our center is eager for the animal to regain its health so that it can be reunited with its family and its owner, the 10-year-old girl who took care of it before arriving in our peninsula», explains one of the center's managers.
