An appeals court in Paris has returned the case of Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to the criminal court on rape charges against a young woman in 2016, according to French media quoting a judicial source.

The court considered that there was sufficient evidence against the Moroccan singer, who is suspected of raping Laura B., who was 21 years old at the time, on October 26, 2016, while he would have been under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The charges against the famous Moroccan artist can result, if convicted, in a sentence of up to 20 years, as reported by Le Parisien.

The Paris Court of Cassation decided last April to cancel the referral of Saad Lamjarred’s file to the criminal chamber, and ordered a new investigation, considering that the evidence and arguments about the rape charge brought against him were insufficient for criminal prosecution.
