The former President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz was charged, Thursday, with corruption, money laundering and unexplained wealth. 13 officials who served under him were also charged with similar offences.

Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, spent Tuesday night and Wednesday in custody at the national security headquarters, recalls DW.

This lawsuit is launched following a report of a parliamentary commission of inquiry in charge of shedding light on the management of public affairs during the mandate of Ould Abdel Aziz (2008-2019).

Ould Abdel Aziz refused to sign the minutes of the investigation. His lawyers maintain that only the High Court of Justice can prosecute him, given that the acts were committed while he was head of state.
