Moroccans top the list of foreigners who obtained European citizenships in 2019. In in the same year, they numbered 66,800 out of a total of 706,400 (all nationalities combined).
Moroccans are followed by the Albanians (41,700) and British nationals (29,800), according to the Spanish news agency EFE, citing data from Eurostat.
84% of these Moroccans obtained European citizenship in Spain, Italy or France. As for the British, 75% obtained German, Swedish or French citizenships, the same source added.
For their part, 69% of Syrian nationals obtained Swedish citizenship. 57% of Turks obtained German citizenship. Among Algerians, numbering 18,000, 82% became French citizens in 2019.
