Europe’s medical regulator said Thursday that the AstraZeneca vaccine is «safe and effective» and not associated with a higher blood clot risk, AFP reported.
The European Medicines Agency’s opinion comes after several European countries halted the use of the vaccine, linking it to blood clot fears.
«The committee has come to a clear scientific conclusion: this is a safe and effective vaccine», EMA chief Emer Cooke said after a probe by the body's safety committee.
«The committee also concluded that the vaccine is not associated with an increase in the overall risk of thromboembolic events or blood clots», she added.
An extraordinary meeting was held on Thursday at the EMA to decide whether action is «necessary» after more than after 30 cases of unusual blood disorders were reported in several European countries, but its findings will be communicated to the public later.
Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) ruled that «there is no reason not to use AstraZeneca's anti-Covid vaccine».
In Morocco, the Ministry of Health announced Wednesday that it will continue to use the AstraZeneca vaccine.
