The president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce hoped, this week, that the Paso del Estrecho operation (OPE), the equivalent in Spain of Operation Marhaba, will be conducted this year. «We hope that in summer, normality can be restored in passenger traffic», he told Televisión Andalucía, writes Andalucia Informacion.
The official recalled that «the traffic of goods was perfectly operational from the first minute, despite the closure of the Moroccan borders, which has lasted for a year». But when it comes to travelers, «more limited circuits will surely be established with passport and vaccination» for this summer.
«We hope that it can be carried out and that the activity will be restored», he added. Gerardo Landaluce also recognized the «very important impact» of this operation on «the work of many people and for many companies».
