The wife of historian and activist Maati Monjib, Christiane Dardé publicly addressed French President Emmanuel Macron, asking him to intervene for the release of her husband.
«My husband, Maati Monjib, French-Moroccan, arbitrarily detained in Morocco since the end of December 2020, has been on a hunger strike for 14 days to protest against this injustice. His health is at stake. Please intervene quickly for his release!» She wrote on Wednesday.

In France, Moroccan writer Abdellah Taïa also lent his support, deploring that Monjib was «arbitrarily detained» and worrying that his health was at stake. Other supporters have also called on Maati Monjib to suspend his hunger strike.
In a collective appeal, more than 40 human rights activists, lawyers, MPs and university researchers addressed the historian, reminding him that his life, his health and his freedom are important to them.
On Thursday, the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights (OMDH) expressed its concerns about Monjib's state of health, warning of «the threat to his health and his sacred right to life». The NGO demanded the activist's release, as well as his access to a fair trial «which must be observed».
