The Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to visit Rabat on Wednesday, March 31, carrying a message from President Mohamed Cheikh Ould El Ghazouani to King Mohammed VI, reveals anbaa.info. Ismail Ould Cheikh is carrying out «a visit which was not scheduled, on instructions» from the Head of State, the Nouacchott-based newspaper added.

This trip comes a week after Ould El Ghazouani received Bachir Mustapha Sayed, a Polisario envoy.

For the record, two days before the FAR operation in Guerguerate, the UN Secretary-General urged, in a telephone call, Ismail Ould Cheikh to «play a positive role recognized by all parties to resolve this crisis».

For its part, the Trump administration encouraged Mauritania to bring together the positions of the other parties (Morocco, Algeria and Polisario) during the first round table of Geneva in December 2018.

Before going to Morocco, Ismail Ould Cheikh spoke with his Algerian counterpart, Sabri Boukadoum.
