Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Ould Cheikh postponed a visit to Morocco on Wednesday. According to Mauritanian newspaper Anbaa Info, the visit was not definitively canceled, but rather postponed to a later date, due to measures put in place to stem the spread of the new coronavirus.
Ismail Ould Cheikh was expected to go to Morocco, to convey a message from Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani to King Mohammed VI. This trip was scheduled the day after a visit of Polisario Front, Bachir Mustafa Sayed to Nouakchott, and his meeting with the Mauritanian president.
Ismail Ould Cheikh's planned trip to Morocco was seen by some observers as a Mauritanian attempt to play a mediating role between Morocco and the Front on the Sahara issue.
