Man dies in Casablanca in old elevator fall

A man in his sixties died in the historic city center of Casablanca on Thursday after the free fall of an old elevator from one of the buildings on Mohammed V avenue.

According to Hespress, one of the deceased's relatives explained that the latter was selling cables for scrap. The tragedy would have occurred when he tried to pull the large wires from the elevator, which had been out of service for about thirty years.

After going there, relatives confirmed the identity of the victim. Firefighters and local authorities were dispatched quickly, to recover the body and cordon off the perimeter of the building.
